LINSEED OIL
RAW
LO00
Long-life, exterior wood treatment/primer and durable coating. NEO Linseed Oil is a 100% pure vegetable oil extracted from the seed of the flax plant. This oil dries by oxidation. NEO Raw Linseed Oil dries slower than NEO Boiled Linseed Oil (lo01). For use on wood and for similar purposes only boiled linseed oil should be used.
Application Areas
• Exterior use only.
• Properly prepared wood or timber surfaces.
Product Features
• NEO Linseed Oil is one of the few vegetable oils that get hard and dry.
• Excellent penetration of wood – even better if the NEO Linseed Oil is diluted with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00).
• “Feeds” wood and keeps it flexible.
• Slow drying for the best flow (raw linseed oil dries much slower than boiled linseed oil).
• Two coats of NEO Linseed Oil are used for best results.
• Can be used as a primer under a range of NEO Paints’ decorative solvent-based topcoats.
• NEO Linseed Oil should not be used on wood that will later be treated with nitro cellulose wood lacquers (e.g. NEO NC Lacquer (nc00)). The solvents used will destroy and lift off the oil from the substrate.
• NEO Linseed Oil is an industrial product and is not suitable for human consumption.
Application Details
• Mixing | Always stir well before use with a flat paddle. |
• Application Method | Brush application. |
• Thinning | NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00). |
• Cleaning | NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00). |
• Application | • Stir well before use. • Two coats of NEO Linseed Oil (raw) are used for best results. • Brush apply a generous first coat (thin 30% with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00)) of NEO Linseed Oil (raw). • Allow to dry 24-36 hours before sanding again. • Remove all dust. • Brush apply (un-thinned) one more generous coat (if more than one coat is applied, leave at least 24 hours between coats). • Leave at least 24 hours before applying further varnish or other coatings. • Clean up application equipment with NEO Mineral Turpentine (mt00). • Only apply in well ventilated areas. Keep away from all ignition sources, flames and sparks. • Do not eat, drink or smoke while applying. • Do not use under NEO NC Lacquer (nc00) as the strong solvents will attack and destroy the linseed oil. • IMPORTANT: All rags soaked with linseed oil are a fire hazard (can start to burn by self-ignition) so they should be disposed of by putting them into a bucket with water. • Do not apply before 09:00 and after 16:00 in the winter. • For exterior use only. • Although the spreading rate will vary with porosity and type of substrate, for uncoated new surfaces work on 9-11 square metres per litre for the first coat and 10-12 square metres per litre for subsequent coats and when applied to previously oiled substrates. |
Surface Preparation
• New Untreated Wood | • Sand the wooden substrate well. • Remove all dust. • Repeat treatment if required (softwoods absorb more oil than hardwoods). • Leave at least 24 hours before applying further varnish or other coatings. • Wait at least for 24 hours before applying further varnish or paint coatings. |
• Old, Neglected and Weathered Wood | • Sand the wooden substrate well. • Remove all dust. • For previously varnished wood, the whole area must be properly sanded back to bare wood. Sand well with coarse sandpaper to remove loose wood, paint and varnished particles. • Repeat treatment if required (softwoods absorb more oil than hardwoods). • Leave at least 24 hours before applying further varnish or other coatings. • Wait at least for 24 hours before applying further varnish or paint coatings. |

• NEO Linseed Oil (raw) is available in clear only (liquid is yellow/light brown and dries to a clear, transparent coating).
• Available in 1
Precautions
• NEO Linseed Oil (raw) is highly flammable and has a flashpoint of 37 degrees Celsius.
• Use only in well ventilated areas and do not eat, drink or smoke during application.

LINSEED OIL
BOILED
LO01
Long-life, interior / exterior wood treatment/primer and durable coating. NEO Linseed Oil is a 100% pure vegetable oil extracted from the seed of the flax plant. This oil dries by oxidation. NEO Boiled Linseed Oil dries faster than NEO Raw Linseed Oil (lo00). For use on wood and similar purposes only boiled linseed oil should be used. For the protection of wood NEO Boiled, Linseed Oil is an excellent, deep penetrating coating. The oil also improves the adhesion of consecutive paint or varnish coatings on wood, which is important for exterior use.
Application Areas
• Interior and exterior use.
• In the past the drying process was speeded up by boiling the linseed oil, nowadays catalysts are added (boiled linseed oil dries much faster than raw linseed oil).
• Two coats of NEO Linseed Oil are used for best results.
• Can be used as a primer under a range of decorative solvent-based topcoats.
• NEO Linseed Oil should not be used on wood that will later be treated with nitro cellulose wood lacquers (e.g. NEO NC Lacquer (nc00)). The solvents used will destroy and lift off the oil from the substrate.
